EVENT JANITORIAL & EVENT SET UP

JOB DESCRIPTION

Janitorial

We provide the janitorial staff for the local event and convention centers operated by the Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA). The busiest season for this work is January through May, although we have positions available all throughout the year. Typically, we have morning, afternoon, and overnight shifts, typically scheduled for 8 hours at $14/hr. Employees are responsible for tending to the restrooms, taking out trash, stocking paper products, vacuuming, and setting up / taking down chairs and tables. During the busy season we can offer part-time and full-time set schedules, often developing into opportunities for permanent hire.

Set-Up / Break Down

Certain events require stages, bleachers, or adjustments to the size of the room by moving air walls on tracks in the ceiling. These positions are also for the Reno Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) and typically only occur at the Reno Sparks Convention Center, scheduled for 8 hours at $15/hr and usually involve heavier lifting in teams of two or more. This work requires the OSHA-Hour Safety Certification (Construction or General Industry).

Trade Show Set-up / Break Down

We work with a variety of tradeshow companies that utilize the primary local event facilities as well as various casino ballrooms and event halls. Employees are responsible for marking blank show floor with tape, rolling out temporary carpet, assembling pipe and drape booths, and various displays. The positions are scheduled for between 4-10 hours per shift and the rate of pay is $15-16/hr depending on the customer. This work requires the OSHA-Hour Safety Certification (Construction or General Industry).

What is required?

1. Transportation

Each of the main event facilities (Reno Sparks Convention Center, Reno Event Center, National Bowling Stadium, Reno Sparks Livestock Event Center) are easily accessible by public transportation, as are more of the other event facilities (casinos).

2. Clothing Requirements

Any work at the primary event facilities requires a plain black shirt and a plain black pair of pants. Closed toe shoes are required, any color is fine. Trade Show Set-up / Break Down simply requires long pants and closed toe shoes.

3. OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification

Event set up, regardless of facility or customer, requires the completion of an OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification, either under the Construction Industry or General Industry. As a new employee you are allowed to participate in this work for up to 14 days before it is necessary to have the certification completed. We have a program available for employees to become certified through an online program which can be completed for free.
